Think of it this way: Media Day is a month from Friday! Opening Night is two months away!! And next Wednesday, FIBA Eurobasket starts in earnest. The off-season is going the way of summer, not that we haven't enjoyed both.
There will be slow build-up, with FIBA Eurobasket starting Wednesday, but unless Bosnia becomes a Cindarella story, Mirza Teletovic could be ready to travel by September 10. Sometime this month, the Nets will be announcing their camp invites, three or four players who are more likely to wind up in Springfield with the Armor.
Here's the dates:
September 4 - 22 - FIBA Eurobasket, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Mirza Teletovic (Bosnia) and Bojan Bogdanovic (Croatia) lone Nets properties who will play for their countries' national teams. New assistant coach Joe Prunty coaches Great Britain. YES network analyst Mike Fratello coaches Ukraine. Games will be televised online. Bosnia opens vs. Latvia, Croatia against Spain, both Wednesday morning, New York time. It's unlikely Teletovic will be playing past September 9, giving him three weeks rest before the team gathers in Brooklyn.
September 9 - Workouts for training camp invitees.
September 21 - First NHL game at Barclays, an exhibition game between Islanders and Devils. Expect heavy Nets tie-ins.
September 30 - Media Day at Barclays Center. Expect huge throng of worldwide media as Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry, Andrei Kirilenko, Shaun Livingston, Alan Anderson and Mason Plumlee all don Nets gear for the first time.
October 1 - 5: Training camp opens at Mike Krzyzewski Center, Duke University. The Nets will fly out of New York after Media Day and spend the first week of camp away from New York.
October 5 - Fenerbahce Ulker will play the Oklahoma City Thunder in Istanbul. With game on NBA TV, it will be chance to see Bogdanovic vs.NBA competition, and specifically Kevin Durant.
October 8 - Nets open preseason vs. the Wizards in Washington
October 12 - Nets host preseason game vs. Pistons at Barclays Center
October 14 - Nets play preseason game vs. 76ers in Philadelphia
October 15 - Nets host preseason game vs. Celtics at Barclays Center
October 17 - Nets host preseason game vs. Heat at Barclays Center
October 23 - Nets play preseason game vs. Celtics in Boston. The game will be nationally televised on NBA TV, but Paul Pierce has said he's unlikely to travel, leaving the drama for regular season.
October 25 - Nets conclude preseason play with a road game vs. the Heat in Miami
October 28 - Rosters set for Opening Day (5 p.m. ET)
October 30 - Nets tip off season on the road in Cleveland vs. Cavaliers
November 1 - Nets host the Heat at Barclays Center to open their second season in Brooklyn.
January 6 - 10-day Contracts can now be signed
January 10 - All Contracts are guaranteed for remainder of the season
