No surprise - Nets waive D.J. White

USA TODAY Sports

Six days after acquiring him as cap ballast in the Celtics trade, the Nets have waived D.J. White, a 6'9" power forward out of Indiana. White's contract was non-guaranteed through August 1, at which point it would have cost the Nets $1 million but more than $3+ million in luxury taxes. Marc Stein reported that with White's contract, the Nets would have paid around $87 million. Now, it's "only" $83 million.

The move gives the Nets 14 players under contract but because of the luxury tax considerations, they're unlikely to add a 15th man.
