Deadlines and Commitments - LXXXIII

Jason Szenes

Busy week(s) ahead for the Nets and their fans. The BIG press conference is this week and the NBA schedule release is only a week and a half away. Also, Jason Kidd is in court this week.

Much of the calendar is taken up by FIBA Eurobasket which takes place in September. National team raining camps and exhibition, or as they're called "friendly," games will dominate August.

Here's our latest update..

July 16 - Jason Kidd has a court hearing in Southhampton municipal court on a DUI charge. The charge relates to an accident he had a year ago in the eastern Long Island community. If he pleads guilty to the charge, expect the NBA to issue a suspension shortly thereafter.

July 18 - The BIG press conference for the Nets off-season acquisitions, including Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and Andrei Kirilenko at the very least. Press conference starts at 12 noon and will be held at Barclays Center. NetsDaily can report both YES and ESPN will broadcast it live. In addition, the press conference will be replayed on YES at 7 p.m., 11 p.m., and 7 a.m. Big remaining question: will Mikhail Prokhorov attend?

July 18 - Bosnian national team, led by Mirza Teletovic, gathers for full training camp. In August they will measure their strengths against Russia, Greece, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Macedonia and Georgia in warm-up games.

July 20 - Croatian national team, led by Bojan Bogdanovic, gathers for full training camp. In August, they will measure their strengths against France, Germany, Macedonia, Latvia, Turkey, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro and Greece.

July 25 - Georgian national team, led by Tornike Shengelia, will travel to Slovenia to continue its training camp which began while Shengelia was playing in Orlando.

July 25 - NBA schedules will be revealed in a special program on NBA TV. Nets will know who their opponent will be on opening night ... and whether it will be at home or on the road. So far, all the Nets know is that they will be facing the Hawks on January 16 in London. Also, the program should include the number and dates of nationally televised games.

July 27 - "Friendly" games prior to FIBA Eurobasket begin. In some cases, the national teams will play up to nine "friendly" games prior to the start of Eurobasket.

August 1 - Nets must decide what to do with D.J. White, acquired in the Celtics trade. If he remains on the roster after this date, his contract will be fully guaranteed at more than $1 million, plus luxury taxes that would add another $4 million.

August 13 - 14 - Bosnia (Teletovic) and Georgia (Shengelia) will go up against each other in two "friendly" matches in Jesenice and Celje, Slovenia.

September 4 - 22 - FIBA Eurobasket, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Mirza Teletovic (Bosnia), Shengelia (Georgia), Bogdanovic (Croatia) and Euro-Stash Ilkan Karaman (Turkey) have all made commitments to their countries' national teams. Mike Fratello will coach Ukraine. Games will be televised online. Kirilenko retired from Team Russia in February of he won't be participating. NBA training camp begins a week after the tournament concludes. On September 5, Croatia will play Georgia ... Bojan vs. Toko.

September 21 - First NHL game at Barclays, an exhibition game between Islanders and Devils. Expect heavy Nets tie-ins.

October 1 - Training camp opens at PNY Center, with Coach Kidd in charge.

October 5 - Fenerbahce Ulker will play the Oklahoma City Thunder in Istanbul. A chance to see Bogdanovic vs.NBA competition.
