Popeye Jones interviewed by Toronto Raptors

USA TODAY Sports

Popeye Jones, whose contract is up on June 30, was in Toronto recently to talk to Raptors officials about becoming an assistant in the Canadian city. With the hiring of Masai Ujiri, there has been a house cleaning in the Raptors front office and a number of jobs, including assistant coaching positions under Dwaine Casey, will have to be filled.

Jones' position with the Nets is tenuous with the Nets. A new coach gets to pick his assistants and Jones, along with Mario Elie, were Avery Johnson hires. Jones, in fact, worked with Johnson in Dallas before both were canned and susequently hired by the Nets.
