Jason Kidd coaching debut set for Orlando Summer League

Head coaches usually don't coach summer league. Sometimes, they'll sit on the sidelines and watch an assistant or two try to make sense out of a hastily thrown together roster. But Jason Kidd's head coaching debut, in fact his coaching debut period, will take place in Orlando at the Southwest Airlines Summer League competition between July 7 through July 12. First game will be Nets vs. Pistons at 5 p.m. That's three weeks away.

Billy King announced that Kidd will coach the summer league during an interview with Joe and Evan on WFAN earlier Friday.

The games are traditionally streamed online, with only team personnel and media permitted inside the Magic's training facility. Who's Kidd likely to be coaching? Kris Joseph's agent said Thursday his guy is playing and it's expected that Tyshawn Taylor and Toko Shengelia are likely to play as well. The team's first round pick is also expected to play as are Springfield Armor players.

Shengelia has been working out at the PNY Center this month. He'll likely return to his native Georgia later in July for national team practices and "friendly" games in advance of FIBA Eurobasket which starts in September. It's uncertain whether another Euro-Net, Bojan Bogdanovic, will fly in from Croatia.

Here's the full schedule and rules for the league, which this year has a championship round. A total of 10 NBA teams will represented. Beyond the Nets, Magic and Pistons the, Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers will compete.
