Jeff Withey to work out for Brooklyn Nets

Jamie Squire

Jeff Withey, who several mock drafts have matched with the Nets, will work out for Brooklyn this month, reports Jared Zwerling of ESPN New York. Zwerling notes that the 7-foot Kansas product will also work out for the Knicks, who hold the 24th pick, two after the Nets. Both teams could use a back-up big.

As Zwerling reports, Withey, 23, is noted for his shot blocking. He averaged 3.9 swats last season -- third-best in Division I. He is seen as offensively challenged however. He's one of several back-up center candidates in the 2013 draft, including Gorgiu Dieng of Louisville, Steven Adams of Pitt, Keith Olynyk of Gonzaga and Rudy Gobert of France.

Withey is the fourth name confirmed for Nets workouts. The others are Jamaal Franklin of San Diego State, Lamont Jones of Iona and Gregory Echenique of Creighton. The Nets are expected to start workouts on June 11, 16 days before the draft which will be held at Barclays Center.
