P.J. Carlesimo joining ESPN for rest of NBA playoffs

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

Bob Raissman of the Daily News reports that P.J. Carlesimo, late of the Nets, will be joining ESPN soon to handle studio analysis for the rest of the NBA playoffs.

Raissman reports Carlesimo is filling the spot Flip Saunders had before he recently left ESPN to become Minnesota’s president of basketball operations. Carlesimo will work on site at the NBA Finals, too. There’s a chance his role will be expanded next season.

"The conversations have been let’s do the playoffs," the Nets former interim coach said. "Then we’ll sit down and talk about the future."

Carlesimo also told Raissman that he didn't know what to expect when Billy King called him into his office on May 5 to discuss his future. "But when you don’t really know," he said, "it’s never a good thing." He said that during the season, neither King nor Prokhorov had promised him anything.

Carlesimo has three rings as an assistant coach of the Spurs, but as a head coach never made it out of the first round.
