Brook Lopez, Reggie Evans dominant as Nets blow out the 76ers, 104-83

BROOKLYN - On a day in which the "big news" leaked about Jay-Z selling out of his ownership share of the Brooklyn Nets, there was a basketball game in Brooklyn that had much greater consequences, so to speak.

The Philadelphia 76ers, winners of four of their last six, were in town and looking to finish off a disappointing 2012-13 campaign on a somewhat positive note. Too bad for them, Reggie Evans nor Brook Lopez weren't having it.

It was all about the Nets bigs, who simply manhandled the 76ers frontline. Lopez and Evans were, in a word, dominant. Lopez went for 29 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in 26 minutes while Evans scored 17 points and pulled down 24 rebounds in 29 minutes.

In the end, the Nets ran away with this one, 104-83.

Evans pulled down 20-plus rebounds for the 9th time this season, which is the most in the NBA.

Game Flow

Four minutes into the game, Evans had eight points and seven rebounds. Yes, four minutes into the game. Also getting involved early was Brook Lopez, who along with Evans, scored the team's first 16 points (8 apiece). Lopez, took over from there, scoring 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting in just over 10 minutes. He was just too much for the 76ers' bigs.

Evans had a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, after one quarter.

First quarter: 31-18

The 76ers second unit got it done, going on a 13-5 run, to cut the Nets lead to just five points, four minutes into the second.

P.J. sent Joe Johnson back into the game to get something going on offense, and that he did. He rattled off four straight quick ones and then had a nice dish to Kris Humphries.

One interesting note, when Carlesimo brought the starters back in, they continued to work the low post, freeing up Lopez on the baseline screen, to a point where they had built up a 15-point lead with three minutes left in the half, and Deron Williams still hadn't scored a single point.

Evans finished the half with 14 points and 17 rebounds. To put his rebounding into perspective, the 76ers had 16 rebounds in the first half.

Halftime: Nets 56, 76ers 38.

Deron Williams finally got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter on an easy layup. The offense, however, continued to run though Lopez. He simply dominated Spencer Hawes in the paint.

At the midway point in the quarter, Evans had pulled down his 20th rebound (9th time this season he's had 20-plus rebounds). The Nets were carrying a 26-point lead, and from there it was just a matter of playing out the final 17 minutes of the game.

Williams scored 11 points in the third quarter.

Third quarter: Nets 85, 76ers 62

P.J. handed the game over to the bench in the fourth quarter, asking them to finish it out -- especially with the Nets on a back-to-back set and up by 23 points.

They did, well, a fine job. The game never got any closer than 20 points, which was helpful because it allowed for P.J. to rest his starters. The bench wasn't perfect, considering, but they had sone nice moments from Kris Humphries (9 points, 7 rebounds), MarShon Brooks (11 points, 7 rebounds) and even a nice Jerry Stackhouse set or two.

Final score: Nets 104, 76ers 83
