MarShon Brooks on the Nets coaching staff: "I don't think they trust me"

After last night's win over the Wizards, in which the Nets had just one starter and nine total players dressed, ESPN's Mike Mazzeo talked to MarShon Brooks who started for an ailing Joe Johnson -- just his second start in the 2012-13 season.

Brooks, who picked up a DNP-CD against the Pacers this past weekend and earlier in the month played just 10 garbage minutes against the Chicago Bulls, one night after scoring a career-best 27 points against the Cavaliers, told Mazzeo that he doesn't think the coaching staff quite trusts him, which is why he hasn't been able to pick up any consistent playing time.

"I don't think they [trust me] because I haven't really played against any good teams," Brooks told ESPNNewYork.com after scoring 12 points in a 106-101 victory over the Washington Wizards on Monday night at Barclays Center.

The reason?

"I have no clue," Brooks said. "I just roll with the punches and have to be ready for whatever happens."

Brooks does believe that it likely stems from the fact that he hasn't been able to take care of the ball, as he carries a 15.4 percent turnover rate. He told Mazzeo that far too often he tries to play "perfect basketball" and that sometimes results in him making mistakes, as a basketball "risk-taker."

With the playoffs just around the corner, it was Brooks' hope that he'd work his way into P.J. Carlesimo's rotation with a chance to play meaningful minutes in late-April and May, but it appears as if he likely won't play any sort of significant role.

He does, however, remain optimistic about the Nets chances of going deep into the playoffs, telling Mazzeo that he thinks they're "coming around" and are currently playing their "best basketball."
