With their leading scorer Kris Joseph out with a sore ankle and Toko Shengelia and Tyshawn Taylor joining them again, the Springfield Armor ran a bit ragged Friday night. They turned the ball over 23 times and lost to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 121-106. Shengelia and Taylor combined for 14 of the turnovers and scored just 36 points between them, 17 below their D-League average.
On Saturday morning, the Nets announced that the two had been recalled to Nets and would be available for Sunday's game vs. the Hawks. Dominique Jones, signed Friday by the Armor, is expected to arrive in Springfield Monday.
All that said, the Armor got another monster game from Willie Reed. Reed, who had 20, 15 and 5 Thursday night, finished Friday with 19, 17 and 4 on Friday. Reed shot 7-of-12 from the floor, poor for him of late. The 6'10" Reed (he says 6'11") has won the praise of Taylor before and his pushing a #CallWillieUp campaign via Twitter. The 22-year-old has shown his credentials of late. In six games this month, he's averaging 17 points on 66.2 percent shooting, along with 8.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. He didn't turn the ball over.
Shengelia and Taylor shot a combined 13-of-34, with Shengelia missing all three of his three point attempts and Taylor missing three of his five. Taylor handed out eight assists but turned it over nine times. Taylor is now the D-League's second leading scorer at 25.4 points per game, edging out Shengelia, now averaging 25.1
