It's the newest and most colorful community event in the Nets portfolio: a "sneaker art" competition for young and older Saturday at LIU, a couple of subway stops away from Barclays Center.
Deron Williams, Jerry Stackhouse, Keith Bogans, Tyshawn Taylor and Kris Humphries will be on hand with rapper and Nets fan Fabolous at the sneaker-designing competition, along with the BrooklyKnight, who'll be there to entertain and presumably inspire.
Up to 100 contestants in two categories — ages 14-20 and 21-and-over — will be provided with sneakers, markers and materials. Two of Fabolous’ tickets to a Nets game is the first-place prize.
Fabolous, a Brooklyn native, was among the first celebrities to join the Nets fan base after the team move.
"My connection with the Nets is strong, being from Brooklyn," Fabolous said. "And the Nets, they really care about the people in Brooklyn. It’s not just a place to play basketball; it’s about community."
