P.J. Carlesimo hoping for Jerry Stackhouse return in playoffs

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Jerry Stackhouse hasn't played since January 26, the result of an "organization decision" to give MarShon Brooks more of an opportunity, reports Stefan Bondy. Somewhat oddly, he was inactive on Sunday at home, the official reason being "rest." Then, he didn't travel to New Orleans for "personal reasons."

Does that mean he's done? Not at all, P.J. Carlesimo tells Bondy. He's hoping to see more of Stackhouse in the playoffs. Said the Nets coach...

"Stack helped us strongly win some games early in the year, and I think the potential is there. Especially if we’re fortunate enough to make the playoffs, I think his experience becomes something that’s more valuable. So yeah, that’s something we need to define better than we are now."

The dropoff has been stark, as Bondy reports:. Stackhouse was averaging 18 minutes through his first 14 games, and even played 30 minutes in a 117-111 loss to the Thunder. His highlight was a 17-point effort in a victory over the Celtics on Dec. 28. He has had some knee soreness which was one reason for his lack of minutes, but it was more about freeing time for younger players.
