Nets top the Kings, 113-93, thanks to an offensive outburst

Nets get hot early, cruise to victory over the Kings, 113-93.

Coming off a thriller of a double-overtime winner, the Nets had to turn around and figure out what to do with DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings some 17 hours later. There was little doubt, however, which way this game was going to go after the Nets carried a double-digit lead early, cruising to a 113-93 victory.

Of the Nets four largest margins of victory this season, three of them --20 vs. the Kings, 17 vs. the Thunder and 16 vs. the Bobcats-- have come in the six games P.J. Carlesimo coached. Only the 39-point blowout of the Magic in November came under Avery Johnson.

Brook Lopez, who went for a team-high 18 points in 16 minutes, said of their performance, "It was great, out starters came out focused." He went on, "Our bench came in and took out energy to a whole other level." And boy did they ever, scoring 50 of the team's 113 points.

Both teams got hot early, seemingly unwilling to play any defense. The Nets scored 36 first-quarter points (a season-high for most points scored in a quarter), shooting 71.4 percent from the floor, while the Kings went for 31 points on 61.9 percent shooting (4-of-5 from the 3-point line). It just seemed like it was going to be that kind of night.

Reggie Evans was fantastic in the first, scoring six points and shutting down, for the most part, DeMarcus Cousins on the defensive side of the ball.

The second quarter belonged to Mirza Teletovic and MarShon Brooks who both caught fire. Teletovic shot 3-of-5 from the floor, for nine points, while Brooks added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the quarter.

Once again, fans waited to see if the 3rd quarter struggles would still hold true in this game. Fortunately, the struggle never really came -- thanks to the Kings lack of run. Sure, if you were comparing their performance to that of their first-half showing, they "fell off" a bit. Still, the Nets managed to score 23 point in the quarter on 30.4 percent shooting shooting.

From there it was simply a matter of winding down the final 12 minutes of action. The Kings never made a serious run, and even when they pulled within 14, the Nets answered with a mini run of their own.

Deron Williams finished with 15 points, six rebounds, seven assists and one turnover, while Teletovic (14 points) and Brooks (15 points) combined to score 29 points off the bench. Andray Blatche had 15 points and 10 rebounds, making this the second time he went for a double-double in two nights.

For the Bosnia bomber, the game --and his performance-- was, well, a game-changer. In addition to a season high in points, he also had a season high in rebounds (6), blocks (2) and minutes. He also had a monster tomahawk slam in the fourth quarter."People think I’m a 3-point shooter but I can do so much more," Teletovic said.

The Nets out-rebounded the Kings 50-41.
