Deron Williams: I'm not worthy of All-Star bid this year

Deron Williams has been an All-Star three times and the Nets have had an All-Star point guard every year but two over since 2001, missing out in 2010 and 2011. But D-Will doesn't think he deserves a roster spot this season.

"I just think there's people playing better than me," he said Tuesday. His overall numbers justify that statement, but since P.J. Carlesimo has taken over, he is playing at an All-Star level. In those nine games, eight of them wins, he's averaging 19.5 points, 8.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 48.3 percent from 3-point range.

Starters get announced Thursday night on TNT and D-Will was far enough behind Rajon Rondo in the last ballot to dismiss much hope of catching up. When the coaches vote to add reserves, he may get a chance in spite of his statement. It will likely be between him, Jrue Holiday and Kyrie Irving.

Joe Johnson's streak of six straight All-Star selections is likely to end this season, but Brook Lopez's may be just beginning. He is the only NBA player averaging at least 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, Mike Mazzeo reports.
