Will Brooklyn Nets wait till off-season to approach Phil?

Marc Stein thinks the Nets will now wait till the off-season to approach Phil Jackson about the head coaching job, undeterred by Jackson's statement to Chris Sheridan that he has "no intention of ever coaching again."

Citing "NBA coaching sources," Stein writes, "Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov remains intent on tuning that out and pursuing Jackson at the appropriate time, which might actually be months from now if Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo can maintain the offensive improvement seen from Brooklyn in this mostly soft stretch of schedule."

Stein however doesn't think the Nets "so-so roster" is appealing to Jackson (citing no sources). He adds "the Nets' new 'A' scenario calls for Carlesimo to get them through the next few months ... and for a decent showing in the playoffs behind a rejuvenated D-Will. And then the Nets can let Prokhorov try, with full force, to see if his luck is any better trying to woo Jackson than it was chasing Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard."

Stein did not address the scenario proposed late this week by Jackson friend Charley Rosen that the 11-ringed coach may be more interested in a front office job than one on the bench.
