The New York City Buildings Department has finally granted a temporary certificate of occupancy for Barclays Center, marking substantial completion of the billion dollar arena. The TCO was granted late Friday. Although there are 67 outstanding requirements before a final CO is granted, the facility is now deemed "safe to occupy."
Basically, the arena bowl is complete, but several of the retail outlets on street level are not. The TCO was granted for "entire building except first floor retail." The certificate was first reported by Atlantic Yards Report. The TCO was originally expected on September 5, but moved back.
Also, the Barclays Center Transit Connection opened at 8 a.m. Monday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday.
