Howard Beck reports the Nets' search for frontcourt depth has led them to Houston, and a meeting with Andray Blatche, who was amnestied this summer by the Wizards. NetsDaily confirmed the report.
Beck, in an exclusive, writes that Blatche who has been working out in Texas with John Lucas will meet with Avery Johnson this weekend. "It was not clear whether the Nets were prepared to make Blatche an immediate offer or were simply exploring their options," Beck added.
Blatche, at 6'11", can play both frontcourt positions and is only 26. He's generally regarded as the best talent available but has had problems with conditioning, immaturity and poor locker room relations with coaches and teammates.
In tweets, Blatche seemed to suggest that he had a workout Saturday morning and that he was open to an offer. Mike Mazzeo quoted team sources as saying any offer to Blatche would be non-guaranteed. Blatche will receive $23 million over the next three years from the Wizards whether he signs a contract or not, whether he plays or not.
