The Mikhail Prokhorov quote that got the most play this week was not about his Nets' spending spree or Russian politics, but his promise that he'll rap with Jay-Z at Barclays Center on Opening Night.
"Yes, I will rap at his concert," Prokhorov told Danny Massey of Crains New York. "I am in rehearsals now 10 hours a day and plan to demand joint billing."
Was it just another off-handed, dry comment by Prokhorov, using his dry wit to get a laugh? Maybe, but, it should be noted that this wasn't the first time the Nets owner has said he'll be rapping with his business partner. Back in April, while touring Barclays Center, he made a similar comment to Jeanine Ramirez of NY1.
"I have a new hobby, rap music," said Prokhorov back then. "And now we're in a great negotiation with Jay-Z. He wants me to open a concert for him. So we're discussing this." While Prokhorov would not rap for the camera --"It's top secret"-- one now wonders what these wild and crazy guys have planned. After all, Prokhorov does have experience.
