In an interview with the Chapel Hill Herald-Sun after he hit a game-winner at a pro-am game a week ago, 37-year-old Jerry Stackhouse talked about his goals with the Nets and how he's really not surprised that he wound up in New York at career's end.
I always thought I would play in New York before my career was over; I never thought it be in Brooklyn though. I'm looking to come in and contribute, but at the same time be a veteran and a leader for a group that’s talented, that went from here (low) to here (high) really fast, and with it being a new team and all the excitement of being in New York."
Stackhouse played for Avery Johnson in Dallas and it's believed Johnson pressed for his signing. He's said he wants to use his time with the Nets to transition to coaching.
