John Schuhmann, in examining the Nets off-season, writes, "the Nets should be the most improved team in the league," citing the return of Deron Williams, the addition of Joe Johnson, and the seemingly good health of Brook Lopez. He notes the break with the past, too: "New city. New arena. New colors, logo and uniforms. New roster."
But Schuhmann cites "a lot of variables" that could scuttle the Nets hopes, starting with their poor defense and fears that Lopez's injury could recur. "They Nets will be better defensively, but how much is a big question," citing his previous work that showed their defensive ineptitude at the beginning of last season was historic. As for Lopez', he writes, "Within the division especially, Lopez's play will be a huge barometer for the Nets' success."
