The Nets bought two second round picks on Draft Night and now have both under contract. The team announced that Tornike "Toko" Shengelia, a 6'9" small forward out of Georgia, has inked his contract, as expected. Shengelia will reportedly be paid the minimum, about $500,000. His signing brings to 13 the number of players under contract.

Shengelia wasn't expected to play this year, but he traveled to New York for the Draft., hoping for a chance. His agent then lobbied to get him a spot on the Nets summer league roster. In practices and then games in Orlando, he impressed the coaching staff. He averaged 10.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 52.9% overall in only 21 minutes per game.

Shengelia impressed with his hard nose play, particularly on defense. Only 20 years old, he will be the youngest player on the team by two years and be one of three rookies, along with Tyshawn Taylor, 22, who was also taken with a pick purchased on Draft Night, and Mirza Teletovic, 26.
