As of Thursday morning, the Nets had 10 players under contract, with one, C.J. Watson, scheduled to sign Monday in New Jersey and three others --Keith Bogans, Toko Shengelia and Nazr Mohammed-- almost done. That would bring them to 14 players and probably end their free agency efforts.
Sean Deveney of The Sporting News writes Friday the front office can rest easy. They're the big winners. The Heat did well, too, bringing in Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, but Deveney writes, "With free-agents Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez re-signing, and with the trade for Joe Johnson, the Nets will finally go into a season with a legitimate shot at a high postseason seed." Deveney counts the Knicks among the big losers and calls the Mavericks' off-season the "most overrated."
