The Mavericks have let Jeff Schwartz, the agent for Lamar Odom (as well as Deron Williams and Jason Kidd) pursue a trade to the Clippers in hopes of reducing their cap space and enhancing their chances to add other free agents. But the Clippers want the Mavs or a third team to take on Mo Williams' $8.5 million player option next season.
Marc Stein reports Dallas' plan is to have "no significant money coming back to the Mavericks" so they can pursue other free agents. If the Mavs can't move Odom, they will likely buy him out for $2.4 million. Also, Stein reports that just like the Nets if they fail in signing Deron Williams, they will move on to offering Steve Nash a contract.
