Gerald Green has quietly spent the summer at the PNY Center (working out -- and preparing for more minutes at shooting guard) and in Brooklyn (doing community service), looking for all the world like a player happy with his team.
His quiet off-season has been interrupted a couple of times. In May, Avery Johnson brought him out to center court at the Nets training facility to meet the 21 free agents who like him were either top picks who had fallen on hard times or were D-Leaguers looking for a chance. Johnson told the free agents Green is what they can be.
This month, Green's March 10 dunk against the Rockets was named Dunk of the Year, selected by NBA.com and the Social Slam Award by a vote of NBA fans, for which he thanked his loyal followers. Next month of course Green can if he wants test the free agent market but as his summer shows he and the Nets seem just fine.
