Green Wins "Social Slam" Award

If you want further proof that Gerald Green's monster alley-oop jam was the Dunk of the Year, here it is. In voting for the Social Slam awards, fans named Green's slam the Social Slam of the Year in the NBA's first social media awards. Of the five dunks featured, the March 10 dunk off a Marshon Brooks lob garnered 27 per cent of the vote.

As Shaquille O'Neal said during the awards ceremony, "Sign that man up!" The big winner on Wednesday night was Kobe Bryant who won the Trendsetter Award for being the most mentioned player this NBA season on Twitter, and the Thumbs Up Award for having 12 million-plus likes on Facebook, the most by any NBA player. The Lakers won for "Most Valuable Team" in social media.

The ceremony was set up to "celebrate the biggest moments and most trend setting plays from the 2011-2012 season....that brought NBA fans across the globe closer together." Worldwide, the NBA social media numbers pale in comparison to those of top European soccer teams. Only the Lakers and Celtics makes the top 10 worldwide, according to a 2011 survey by Sports Business Journal.
