Armon Johnson, who the Nets liked before the 2010 draft, has signed a 10-day contract, bringing to 22 the number of players who've worn the Nets uniform this season.
A 6'3" point guard, Johnson played 38 games for the Trail Blazers in 2010-11, averaging 2.9 ppg while shooting better than 40% from deep. He played in one game this season after being called up from the Idaho Stampede. The 23-year-old Nevada product hasn't played since being released by Portland February 27.
Johnson will back up at the point where the Nets have used both Marshon Brooks and Gerald Wallace in recent games, limiting Sundiata Gaines minutes. The Nets last week said Jordan Farmar is out for the season.
The Nets, if they like what they see in Johnson, can give him a second 10-day contract that would take him to the end of the season...and permit them to retain his Bird Rights.
