Here's what you can expect over the next 10 days, so steel yourselves: facilely written obituaries and eulogies by writers who see an easy target and start firing their slings and arrows.

David Marchese of Grantland, Bill Simmons' blog thing, gets off one of the first shots: "Living and dying with the New Jersey Nets in 2012 is like riding hard for a pet goldfish - it's not gonna be around very long, and it'll never amount to much, so why bother?"

Seeking out fans who help him with his theme, Marchese finds a pathetic mix of drinkers, mob types, and kids who confirm things are hopeless, takes a couple of shots at Deron Williams and Mini-Sly (!) and moves on. The Nets move to Brooklyn will be approved later Friday.
