Members of the Nets front office and some of the team's (ten) scouts will be in Portsmouth, VA, Wednesday night for the opening of the Portsmouth Invitational, the official start of draft season. The tournament features college seniors whose chances of becoming even second round picks are slim...but ya never know.
One Nets scout who'll be on hand is Bob Ferry, father of Danny, friend of Billy King, and a two-time NBA Executive of the Year with the Bullets (now Wizards). Although he's 74, King says Ferry is an excellent judge of talent. "I've relied on him not only for that, but for his experience in this job [as an NBA general manager]," said King.
