You had to expect it: the parsing of everything Deron Williams says from now on about his future. Without Dwight Howard in a Brooklyn Nets uniform, the situation becomes less certain. And so when D-Will said Wednesday that it's unlikely anything over the last 19 games will affect his decision in July, there were differing interpretations.
Does it mean he's made up his mind or does it mean he's simply put aside the Nets injury-riddled season and is looking at other aspects of whether to stay or go. The Nets remain optimistic, but they were optimistic about Dwight Howard, too.
Specifically, Williams was asked if anything over the last 19 games of the season could impact his decision this summer.
"Not really", came the response. He was also asked if the Nets could supplant the Knicks in the city's basketball culture. "Not anytime soon," he said, adding "It would take a while for all the kids to grow up Net fans ... I think it’ll be a while. But if we win a championship, there’s no telling." We? Let the guessing begin.
