You have to wonder if this would have been a bigger deal if something had happened last week. The Nets have signed a three-year deal with Adidas to sponsor the team store at Barclays Center.
"The Nets Shop" by Adidas is the sportswear company’s first store in Brooklyn. Adidas is the NBA’s official retail supplier. The deal marks the start of a new relationship between the Nets and Adidas on the team level, according to Brett Yormark. Adidas is also working with the Nets on the "refresh" of their uniforms and colors.
At least three Nets players are Adidas athletes: Brook Lopez, MarShon Brooks, and Jordan Farmar, the first two of whom would have sent to Orlando in the trade for Dwight Howard, who is of course Adidas' biggest name. It was rumored that Adidas was ready to give Howard a $400 million deal if he came to Brooklyn.
