My Take on the Current State of the New Jersey Nets

While most people are either taking the side of optimism or being just being in down right self destruct mode, I am actually in the middle in both of that, which I think a lot of people on here need. I might not be the most well known user on this site but I do believe I can contribute to this whole ordeal. Here we go...

We will start with optimism: First things first, this could of been a whole lot worse. We could of ended up with absolutely nothing, or maybe even worse, our franchise point guard could of wanted out. But he didn't, so It shows as of right now it might not be Dwight or nothing. With the "we could of ended up with nothing" part, I think we could ended up with a lot worse than Wallace. Given we had NO leverage, I think we came out OK.

Optimism on Dwight: I know, I know, no one including myself wants to hear more about Dwight, but I do have an interesting THEORY of the Dwightmare. He has not stated his stance past the 2012-2013 season, which may indicate he is fully committed to Magic going forward. When asked by a reporter about about his future past the 12-13 season he said "I play here now". I'm not taking anything in to this, just worth noting. I think it has been clear the past 3 or 4 days that Dwight did not want to be traded ANYWHERE. It has seemed he wanted to make this playoff run with the Magic he has been working hard for. But lets just say this, if Orlando losses in the 1st round or maybe even in the 2nd round, with little progress being made, and lack of moves still by the Magic FO, I think its quite possible he would want to leave again. The Magic would be essentially the same spot they started this season in, and quite frankly I don't think they would want any part of a Dwightmare Round II. It has been said in recent articles the Nets still believe they have a chance at Dwight past this season, and they will reportedly try to stack up on as many players and draft picks they can to keep Deron and possibly to lure Howard over to Brooklyn, and we all know his agent Fegen wants it more than anybody for obvious reasons. Don't look at me as delusional, but I think it's still a possibility this can still happen.

Optimism on Wallace: I think it's save to say the majority of users on this site do not like this trade. I have read the reasons, and I'm here to try to contradict them.

1) Wallace has never played with a point guard of Deron's level, so lets wait and see what he can do with a top 3 Point guard.

2) Wallace has been accepted to a deal with the Magic twice. If it comes down to us possibly being back in the Dwight hunt, Wallace could be an extremely valuable piece. The first time in December, when we had an agreement on a deal, Wallace was heading to the Magic. Now reports are coming out if Dwight did not waive his ETO, the Magic were about to do a 3 team trade with Magic getting Wallace again. There might be more toward this Wallace trade then we know.

Oh Joy, the Negatives: I probably have more opinions on optimism, but I might be able to feed some people looking for every negative thing to come out of this.

The Inability to Dump Petro's, Morrow's, and Farmar's Contracts: I thought for sure we would be able to dump at least one of these salaries, especially Farmar's and Morrow's, but it didn't happen. I don't what happened with the Diaw and CJ Miles possible deals, but I thought we would be able execute on one of them, not the biggest deal in the world though...

Negatives on Dwight: I think these obvious. We didn't get the superstar that we have been depending on since we traded for DWill at the trade deadline. And some at some points of his interviews today it seemed like he might be fully and truly committed to Orlando, but as we know, Dwight shouldn't be trusted.

Negatives on Wallace Trade: The 9.5 million dollar player option for next year doesn't look sexy, especially that he will be 30 next year. Also, if we do lose some games this year and end up what would be the 4th, 5th, or 6th pick, that is bad.

Conclusion: I know I might of ended being a little more optimistic about this situation as I might of thought, but honestly thats basically what we have to do now. We can't work ourselves up about this, because really no one knows still whats going to happen. Wallace could be a great accusation for us because he was great with Deron and helped us into a playoff spot this season, and ultimately helped Dwight be in Brookyln. Or it could be a huge mistake and leave us with no players, and no picks for Brooklyn. This is a wait and see trade, which really no one wants. I think we all agreed that before the Deadline that we wanted a definite answer on whats going to happen with our team, but we didnt get one. But I do think it's encouraging that we did fill a gaping hole in our lineup and the mentality is to "win now". Something we havent experience since OUR big 3 left. So in conclusion, stay proud as Nets fans, be proud to say yeah, this was rough, but you know what, it isnt the end of the world, and we still have our New Jersey Nets, I thank you for reading my take of the NJ Nets!
