Barclays Center Schedule Tightens

The New Year's shutdown of Barclays Center's facade fabricator has affected the timetable for completion of the arena, according to Engineering News Record, a construction industry magazine. Still, a spokesman for the arena's general contractor, Hunt Construction says it "remains confident that we will complete the project as scheduled."

The arena is scheduled to open September 28. Last month, an engineering consultant for arena bondholders said it should be complete by September 5. A new report is due next week. After ASI Limited shut its doors, Forest City Ratner was able to get an insurer to take over ASI's factory in Indiana, but as ENR reports, that has slowed the process and forced Hunt to temporarily enclose parts of the arena that would have been enclosed by the facade and curtain wall.

Meanwhile, FCR reports construction will soon get underway on the last major structural piece at Barclays Center, the 80-foot long, 30-foot high canopy with its distinctive "oculus" stretching out over the entrance plaza . It's scheduled to begin March 26.
