Willie Reed is listed at 6'9" on the Springfield Armor roster, but he will tell you, with only the trace of a smile, that he's actually 6'11". He could be. Point is that Reed, the youngest member of the Armor at 22, is developing nicely up north. He had 23 points on 11-of-19 shooting Friday night along with five boards and two blocks, all in 27 minutes. James Mays, the Nets training camp invite, played well, too, snaring 19 rebounds to go with his 18 points.
Still, with both those positives, the Armor lost to the Canton Charge, 87-81 in Canton. Canton is the home to the Football Hall of Fame while Springfield hosts the Basketball Hall. The Armor had only five assists on the night. Ben Uzoh, the ex-Net, had one to go with his 14 points. Jon Leuer, who was sent to Canton from the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers last week, was the game’s high scorer with 28 points to go with 16 rebounds. The Armor fell to 3-3 and play the Fort Wayne Mad Ants Saturday night.
