Fenerbahce, the Euroleague powerhouse hit by injury and mediocre play, faced a do-or-die game Thursday in Instanbul. Win and they advance to the Euroleague Round of 16, the first level of the playoffs. Lose and they would be done in the continent-wide league, after outspending most of the teams from Madrid to Tel Aviv.
With American Bo McCalebb leading the way, Fener beat Cantu, 77-69, and will continue to play on. McCalebb, who may be Europe's best player, scored 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting. The two Euro-Nets, Bojan Bogdanovic and Ilkan Karaman also played well, with Karaman slamming home two dramatic dunks for four of his six points (video available in Game Report.) Bogdanovic scored 10 points in the low scoring game, going 4-for-10, but missing all four of his three-pointers.
