For his second flopping offense, the NBA has fined Brooklyn's Reggie Evans $5,000, the league announced Wednesday evening. Evans is the first NBA player to be fined for flopping under the league's new guidelines.
Three days ago, he was warned after the league reviewed video of the Boston Celtics game November 15 and determined that Evans had flopped in order to get a foul called against Jared Sullinger. Then, Wednesday, following a review of a foul against Metta World Peace in the third quarter of the Laker game, the NBA office assessed the fine. After the call was made, an angry Mike Dantoni was seen mouthing the words "he flopped" and motioning to the ref that he was calling the league.
Officials monitor games and review plays that could have included an egregious flop after a game has ended. Everyone gets one warning, but after that, the bills start piling up. The second offense will cost a player $5,000, a third will go to $10,000. Four flops and it's $15,000 and a fifth will be a whopping $30,000.
Adrian Wojnarowski quoted a league executive as saying Evans getting the first fine is "...fitting, since he was the star of the demonstration video."
Evans, identified only as "No. 30 in white," was indeed the star of the NBA anti-flopping video circulated in the preseason. The Nets forward has long been accused of flopping, which the league promised would get attention.
His response to the news, via Twitter: "Feel like the FEDS looking at the Boi. #iaintlyin!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
