Jay-Z finished his run of eight concerts in nine nights with a live streamed video feed Saturday ... and various references to the Nets throughout the concert. Other than his arrival by subway , the high point of the evening, both for Nets fans and non-Nets fans alike, was an appearance by Mrs. Shawn Carter. Beyonce' walked on stage wearing a Mitchell and Ness leather Brooklyn Nets cap to join her husband already attired in Nets gear.
Jay-Z initially appeared in the away (black) Nets uniform shirt as he had in earlier concerts, then switched to the home (white) uniform shirt. He wore two different "Brooklyn Nets" caps. Jay-Z also discussed how he got into the Nets, explaining from the stage that in 2003, Jason Kidd "then with the Nets" told him at a party that the Nets were for sale and could be headed to Brookiyn. He had "my guy" get in touch with Bruce Ratner to set up a meeting.
Once again, he indicated that he owned more of the team than the 1/15th of one percent reported by the New York Times and said he was proud to be an owner of the Nets.
: "[I'm] a young black African male who was raised in a single-parent home in low-income housing and I stand before you as an owner of the Brooklyn Nets," he said to wild cheering.
In ending the opening act of Barclays Center, Jay-Z left the stage with a line that could have been meant for his team as much as for his native borough. "Don't be good, Brooklyn, be great!"
