Brooklyn Nets start stocking Springfield Armor

Carleton Scott and James Mays, who had non-guaranteed training camp contracts, are likely to play next in Springfield with the Armor. Scott, a 6'8" small forward from Notre Dame, and Mays, a 6'9" power forward, were cut yesterday by the Nets and both are expected to join the Armor in training camp next month. They played in Europe last season but will now move to the D-League. Although they will be paid less, they're more likely to get a call-up from either the Nets or any of the 29 other NBA clubs this way.

Under the CBA, D-League affiliates can claim the rights to the last three players cut by the parent club. The Nets cut Stephen Dennis, a 6'6" combo guard out of Kutztown, but his rights are already help by the Bakersfield Jam, where he played last season.

Next Friday, Milton Lee, the Armor GM, and Bob MacKinnon Jr., the Armor coach, will head to Springfield for the D-League draft. The Armor, who won the Eastern Division crown last season, will pick at #14 in the Draft, which is a conference call affair. The Armor has already had local tryouts in New Jersey and Springfield. The Armor open their season with the Canton Charge on November 24.
