There were nine fights at Barclays Center Saturday night, four of the championships, and each fighter, along with his corner men, received a bag of Brooklyn Nets gear, caps and water bottles and t-shirts before their match. That way, if they wear it, the Nets logo will be seen on national TV and in photographs taken as the fighters approach the ring ... and if the corner men wore the t-shirts, throughout the fight. It's part of Brett Yormark's arena cross-promotional effort, to associate other athletes and performers with the Nets and vice versa. It started, of course, with Jay-Z. Now, it will be a regular feature of every big event at the arena.
Among those who wore the gear Saturday was Brooklyn's Danny Jacobs ... and his corner men. He made his return to boxing after undergoing surgery and rehab for spinal cancer in 2011. it was a special evening for him, especially since he didn't know if he'd ever walk again. Jacobs dropped his opponent in 1:13.
