The exterior of the Barclays Center will be made up of 11,998 weathered steel panels, none of them like another. The distinctive facade is likely to be the most iconic feature of the arena, but with much of the panels still to be emplaced, the company that manufactures them has closed its doors.
ASI Limited of Whitestown, IN, announced to its 250 employees last week that it was "winding down" its business because the company was "no longer profitable." It's uncertain how the decision to close the Indiana facility will affec the Barclays Center schedule. The panels were pre-weathered in Indiana, then shipped to Brooklyn.
A Nets spokesman declined comment when asked how the closing would affect arena construction.
