A little more than a year ago, Mikhail predicted that his investment in the Nets and Barclays Center would reach a billion dollars by 2015. That would seem to be as unlikely a prediction as his more famous claim that the Nets would be NBA champions by the same year.
Never doubt a guy whose fortune is estimated as high as $25 billion. In Forbes this week, the Nets have moved up seven places in the listing of the most valuable NBA teams, from #21 to #14 and from $312 million to $357 million, a 14% jump in spite of the team's miserable on-court performances. Remember, Prokhorov invested a little more than $200 million in the team (80%) and arena (45%) in 2010.
Forbes also notes that Prokhorov remains the richest NBA owner. In fact, he is the richest owner in sports.
