Tough Start Hurts D-Will in GM Poll

Last year, when playing for the Jazz, half the general managers in the NBA saw Deron Williams as the NBA's best point guard. But in the annual GM poll taken just after the start of the season, D-Will had dropped out of the top three, falling behind Derrick Rose, 59.3%; Chris Paul, 37.3%; and Russell Westbrook, 3.7%.

Williams did get some votes for "best passer" and "best leader" but neither put him in the top three. MarShon Brooks was tied for third in voting, at eight percent for "sleeper success" behind Norris Cole,44%, and Iman Shumpert, 12.0%. (It should be noted that in that category last year, GM's picked Luke Harangody and Patrick Patterson). Among the other Nets to get votes was P.J. Carlesimo for best assistant.
