If Dennis Horner had been at the D-League Showcase in Reno Monday night, one thing would have looked familiar. On the opposite side of the court was Brandon Costner, who he backed up and played with at North Carolina State. Just as he had been with the Wolfpack, the 6'9" Montclair native was the best player on the court.
Costner led the Lakers' hybrid team, the L.A. D-Fenders to a comfortable 97-82 victory. Costner put on an offensive clinic, scoring 29 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Costner outshone three former NBA players on the D-Fender roster: Gerald Green, Mardy Collins and Orien Greene. L.D. Williams and JamesOn Curry each scored 19 points for Springfield (8-9), which shot only 35 percent from the field. Jeff Foote had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
