When the Nets begin their quest for a new P.A. announcer Friday night, they'll be hiring someone not just for their last season in New Jersey, but also for their first season in Brooklyn...where not coincidentally the tryouts will be held. It would be "nice" but not necessary that the new voice of the Nets be from Brooklyn, said Petra Pope who's running the tryouts.
"We’re looking for a fresh voice — people with a booming, dynamic voice that’ll make the building shake," said Pope, the Nets senior vice president of event marketing. As for a Brooklyn accent, that's not a disqualifier, says Pope. Added Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, "As far as I’m concerned the thicker their accent, the better!"
