Adrian Wojnarowski is tweeting that the Nets have hired Bob MacKinnon Jr., who led the Colorado 14ers to a D-League championship in 2009, as coach the Springfield Armor. As Armor coach, MacKinnon would be a Nets employee. MacKinnon's father was GM and head coach of the Nets in the 1980's.
Woj tweeted, "Nets have reached deal with Bob MacKinnon Jr., to coach D-League's Springfield Armor, sources say. Still some paperwork needed to finalize." Scott Schoeder of Ridiculous Upside tweeted that MacKinnon told him "nothing official at this time." Meanwhile, Dee Brown, the Armor coach last season, said he won't be back. D-League national tryouts are September 24.
MacKinnon's last D-League job was head coach of the idaho Stampede in 2009-10, but his biggest success came with the 14ers who raced through the D-League playoffs in 2008-09 to win the title over Utah. His roster included former Nets Billy Thomas and Eddie Gill. His sole NBA experience was with the Lakers as a scout and associate director of Lakers summer camps, 2005-08.
