A few years back, the Nets wanted a big name to be the exclusive soft drink provider at Barclays Center, but wound up with Jones Soda, a little known Seattle company that features personalized products and unusual flavors. A "Jones Soda Shoppe" was planned inside the arena. But with steel and buzz mounting in Brooklyn, that's changed.
Bruce Ratner and Mikhail Prokhorov have "settled with" Jones and concluded a multi-million dollar deal with Coca-Cola to be the official and exclusive provider of soft drinks at Barclays Center, the Post reports. Coca-Cola has also formed a "sponsorship alliance" with the Nets and will develop "special Brooklyn-themed flavored beverages". Brett Yormark said Coke was chosen because of its longstanding historical ties to Brooklyn, where it once was the official soda of the Dodgers at Ebbets Field. It's a connection the Nets are increasingly pushing.
