Boxing Scene magazine looks at the Barclays Center ambitions of those who run Golden Boy Promotions and finds that nothing less than a title fight, on HBO, will satisfy them. In fact, they'd like to see Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Maywether in the first match at Barclays. The two are currently battling each other in court.
Others suggest something less than that titanic struggle, but no one dismisses the possibility of a title fight on HBO to open the arena. The deal between Barclays and Golden Boy, which is L.A.-based, calls for monthly matches and the promoter promises there will be "marquee matchups", not club fighters, often featuring boxers representing the city's various elasticities.
