Sports Business Journal's Liz Mullen and Brian T. Smith of Salt Lake Tribune were both tweeting Wednesday that while reports say CAA and Leon Rose will sign Deron Williams once a 15-day waiting period is over, "1 source told SBJ today other agents may get interviews." Smith tweeted, "Told that other big-name agencies are gunning for Nets'/ex-Jazz's Williams."
Now, Al Iannazzone reports one of the "big name agencies" Williams is reportedly considering is Excel Sports Management run by Jeff Schwartz, who represents Jason Kidd, Devin Harris, Paul Pierce, Blake Griffin and Lamar Odom, among others. Harris switched from CAA to Excel following the 'Melo Drama, suggesting he wasn't happy about his representation.
SBJ's Mullen also spoke with Bob McLaren, D-WIll's ex-agent who expressed no regrets over the loss of his only NBA client. She tweets, "McClaren said he wished former client NJ Nets All Star PG Deron Williams well. Called him 'great player'. Said 'it's part of the business.' Mullen added that McLaren did not know who will be representing Williams because Williams had not told him. Smith adds, D-Will "wants something bigger. Entering prime of his career during a new era for the NBA. Wants to have every opportunity to win."
