The Nets announced Thursday morning that they have waived Quinton Ross, the little used swingman acquired in last year's Yi Jianlian salary dump. Ross, 29 with an expiring contract, suffered a herniated disc recently and is done for the season. A defensive specialist, he averaged 1.6 points and 0.8 rebounds in 36 games.
A few hours later, they announced that they have signed Mario West, a 6'5" defensive specialist, a 10-day contract. He spent the previous three seasons with the Hawks and was with the Celtics in the preseason. West, 26, has career averages of 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds in 156 NBA games. He has played the last two seasons with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League, averaging 13.7 points and 3.1 assists. He was waived by Maine last week to be with an ailing family member. West and Anthony Morrow were teammates at Georgia Tech and share the same agent. He will be the 22nd player to wear the Nets uniform this season.
