Gaines Has Fractured Hip; Williams Will Not Return on Two-Game Trip

Deron Williams won't play either game this weekend: Friday vs. the Magic or Saturday vs. the Hawks.  Williams, who arrives in Orlando before the game, will next be re-evaluated in New Jersey prior to the Nets' next back-to-back, Tuesday vs. the Rockets and then their first ESPN game in two years, vs. the Knicks on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Nets announced Friday afternoon that Sundiata Gaines has a fractured right hip, knocking him out for the rest of the season. Gaines hurt it in the Nets' game vs. the Cavaliers.  He'll be on crutches for 6-8 weeks before he can begin rehab. Damion James, whose surgically repaired foot continues to bother him, is out for Friday's game in Orlando as well.  Quinton Ross will be returning to action Friday.

So the Nets will start the same five Friday as in Cleveland: Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Anthony Morrow, Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez. Like in Cleveland, Vujacic also will play some point guard and Ben Uzoh, just returned from Springfield via Sioux Falls, should also get some time.
