It seems everything between the Nets and Knicks nowadays is a competition: games, arena plans, billboards. But Thursday's competition between the Nets Dancers and Knicks City Dancers has a real back story. Petra Pope, the Nets Senior Vice President for Event Marketing & Community Relations, founded the Knicks dance team in 1991, and Kimberlee Garris, the Nets Entertainment Manager, was a Knick City Dancer.
The Nets Dancers will match-up against their cross-river rival beginning Thursday in Round 1 of the NBA Dance Team Bracket, a single-elimination tournament, to crown the fans' favorite dance team. All 30 NBA dance teams are competing for the title. Beginning on Thursday at 2 p.m., fans can go to www.njnets.com and compare dancer team videos before casting their vote for the NETS Dancers. Voting is open until Friday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
